Responsibilities- Operates a Waste Pro automated side-load truck on pre-assigned and special routes to collect garbage, yard waste, or recycling. Oversees the work of helpers on the route; performs pre-trip and post-trip truck checks and cleaning; and performs other related work as assigned.
- Deliver a high level of customer service and courteous, expeditious interaction with the public and customers.
- Maintain a positive attitude toward the company, customers, and municipal goals.
- Ensure garbage and recyclables are picked up and transferred properly; some pickups may require using back doors; tag improper refuse containers and waste as needed.
- Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections as per Waste Pro procedures and DOT guidelines. Complete Safety Lane activity and DVIR daily following safety lane guidelines, including inspection under hood, under carriage, fluids, and tires.
- Maintain a clean truck; wash exterior weekly; inspect under the hood, walk around, check under carriage, pump gas, monitor fluid levels and tire pressure.
- Assist with cleanup of scattered refuse and operate truck hydraulics to move and empty large bins.
- Prepare, maintain, and submit required company and regulation-mandated reports and documents.
- Supervise all persons working on the vehicle during the designated route.
- Comply with all Department of Transportation and state requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.
- Must have a Class A or B CDL valid for the state where the position works; a clean driving record is required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Understand refuse collection policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices; knowledge of DOT and state requirements for CMVs.
- Normal hearing and vision (with or without correction).
- Ability to bend, stretch, and move with normal range of body motion; operate refuse truck and related equipment safely.
- Follow a designated refuse collection route or work schedule and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Maintain written records and service responses; communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, dispatch, and supervisors.
- Must be able to read and speak English well enough to understand highway and traffic signals and to make legible entries on paperwork.
