Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician responds quickly to equipment-related issues and installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs production and packaging equipment to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation. This role works with sophisticated electronic, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems, performing both corrective and preventive maintenance. The technician supports processing and packaging operations by diagnosing equipment problems, replacing faulty components, and keeping accurate maintenance documentation while actively contributing to safety, continuous improvement, and GMP standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond immediately to equipment-related problems to minimize production downtime in processing and packaging areas.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of production and packaging equipment and machinery.
  • Observe and test the operation of electronic, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical devices to evaluate performance and identify operating problems.
  • Dismantle equipment and machinery to identify, remove, repair, and replace damaged or deteriorated components, and reassemble equipment correctly.
  • Replace faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, motors, and position sensing devices.
  • Monitor equipment meters and adjust temperatures as needed to maintain proper operating conditions.
  • Monitor equipment, instruments, and connections involved in scheduled sterilization processes and determine required preventive maintenance, calibration, and line checks.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and machinery, including repair or replacement of electrical wires and connections, welding and re-soldering, lubrication of parts, cleaning filters, recalibrating controls, changing line gaskets, adjusting components, and cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and work order documentation for all equipment repairs and service activities.
  • Troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and PLC-controlled equipment using a computer and diagnostic modules.
  • Use diagnostic tools such as digital voltmeters, mega-ohm meters, and AMP probes to identify and resolve electrical problems.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and production efficiency.
  • Follow and promote all safety procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all times.
  • Support the production team by providing timely equipment repair and preventive maintenance services in packaging and process areas.

Essential

Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with approximately 80% of work focused on mechanical systems.
  • Solid electrical knowledge and experience, including understanding theory of operation and practical troubleshooting (approximately 20% of work).
  • Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance on industrial equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Experience with equipment in manufacturing environments, ideally in food manufacturing or with packaging equipment.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and working on PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Proficiency using diagnostic tools such as digital voltmeters, mega-ohm meters, and AMP probes.
  • Capability to perform welding and re-soldering as part of repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in manufacturing settings, including root cause identification and resolution.
  • Ability to maintain detailed maintenance logs and work order documentation.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment while adhering to safety and GMP standards.

This is a Permanent position based out of Covington, TN.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $68640.00 - $74880.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

Automatic employer contributions. After one year of service, each pay period, Unilever will make an automatic contribution (called a "non-elective contribution") to your account of 4% of eligible pay. You do not need to contribute to receive this employer contribution.
