Job Title: SWAP Employment Specialist

Reports to: SWAP Coordinator

Summary

Under the supervision and assignment of the SWAP Coordinator, the SWAP Employment Specialist is responsible for providing, coordinating, and obtaining services that result in successful employment placement for youth and young adults (ages 15‑24) who are exiting the school system with mild to moderate disabilities. SWAP staff are district employees but do not assume typical ancillary duties of education staff. This position will be based at the Colorado Workforce Center.

Classified Salary Schedule, Range: $24.10 – $37.35 per hour depending on experience.

Education and/or Experience
  • Associate’s degree preferred;
    Work Keys or similar assessment completed in past 2 years accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum one year of experience working with youth and/or young adults with disabilities.
  • Understanding of employment practices, labor market trends, career development principles, and Vocational Rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of community services and agencies for individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with job seekers and employers.
  • Knowledge of resume writing, interview techniques, and job search strategies.
  • Highly organized, able to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • Empathetic and patient with a genuine desire to help individuals with disabilities overcome barriers to employment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience with professional electronic communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual assessments to identify client skills, interests, and career goals.
  • Provide guidance and support in resume writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
  • Develop and deliver workshops or training programs on employment‑related topics such as job search techniques, networking, and workplace etiquette.
  • Collaborate with employers to understand their hiring needs and establish relationships to identify potential job opportunities.
  • Screen job seekers for qualifications and support needs and match them with suitable employment opportunities.
  • Assist job seekers in completing job applications and preparing for interviews.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of interactions, progress, and outcomes, including electronic filing systems.
  • Keep abreast of current labor market trends and industry‑specific information to provide relevant advice.
  • Network and build partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and educational institutions.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and implement innovative strategies for placement and career advancement.
  • Provide follow‑along services after a student’s case is closed.
  • Intervene on students’ behalf when requested to support ADA‑related concerns or other needs.
  • Assist Colorado Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in short‑term training services as assigned.
  • Acquire documentation to determine eligibility with DVR as requested by counselors.
  • Develop reports as assigned by the SWAP Coordinator.
  • Follow Board of Education, building, and department procedures and policies.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Requirements

Responsible for supervising and maintaining the safety of students under his/her supervision.
