Bulldog Academy Teacher

Salary:
Placement on the Certified salary schedule is commensurate with education and teaching experience. Starting base salary is $51,000, actual placement on the salary schedule is based on experience and education.

Job Summary

The Bulldog Academy Teacher serves as a member of the 6‑12 secondary teaching team that supports students engaged in virtual learning. Students who choose the Bulldog Academy learning path may be:

  • Looking for a unique learning path with a self‑paced, challenging core content
  • Needing credit recovery opportunities
  • Desiring a more flexible learning opportunity
  • Needing or wanting to enter the workforce early
  • Preferring to learn on their own time, in their own space, and independently
  • With a history of removal from a class or school due to disciplinary measures (expulsion, habitual disruption)

The Bulldog Academy Teacher will monitor learning through the district's virtual learning technology platform, ensuring students are challenged and supported appropriately, meet individual goals, and comply with district eligibility and graduation requirements while staying in sync with attendance, behavior, and student code of conduct policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work closely with teachers, advisors, and the school counselor to implement positive behavior systems and maintain transparent data.
  • Collaborate with administrators and leadership teams to meet discipline processes and explore alternatives to traditional school discipline.
  • Monitor attendance through a daily check‑in method and log accordingly.
  • Track work completion and grades in accordance with eligibility, student goals, and Bulldog Academy expectations.
  • Maintain forward momentum toward credit expectations for MCSD graduation requirements.
  • Mentor/advise students to help them meet graduation requirements.
  • Assist in implementing policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures related to student behavior and attendance.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and staff timely regarding behavior and attendance.
  • Commit to learning best practices in student management and attendance.
  • Attend and lead special meetings focused on student behavior and attendance.
  • Participate in professional growth to improve skills related to the job assignment.
  • Hold students accountable to expectations during Bulldog Academy classroom sessions.
  • Supervise students during unstructured times (before/after school, passing periods, lunch periods) as assigned.
  • Recommend revisions to student code of conduct, rules, regulations, and handbooks for the Bulldog Academy and blended learning.
  • Execute record‑keeping functions as directed, including behavior event entries and documentation to families.
  • Work directly with academically and socially challenged students in partnership with teachers, administrators, counselors, and parents.
  • Engage students in goal setting.
  • Encourage and motivate students to develop independence, self‑confidence, and reach their full potential.
  • Create and facilitate processes to establish and maintain behavior, attendance, and other student plans.
  • Attend staff, district, and in‑service trainings; serve on committees as required.
  • Collect, analyze, and maintain student data.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • Document behavioral and attendance records promptly in district systems.
  • Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, and others professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure layers of intervention are in place to support students in alternative settings, including:
    • Monitoring student progress toward objectives, course, and graduation expectations; providing feedback.
    • Partnering with community agencies for referrals and evaluation.
    • Providing effective classroom programs that address individual student needs.
    • Following all safety protocols and reporting incidents (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse).
  • Support classroom teachers in implementing established curriculum and individual student plans.
  • Attend extracurricular activities and programs as designated.
