Job Summary

A paraprofessional-Teaching Assistant will assist the classroom teacher in helping students learn and/or stay safe.

Salary

$17.68 - $27.40 per hour - Aide Classified Salary Schedule, dependent upon experience.

Education and Experience

Minimum of 49 College Semester Hr. preferred or have passed the Work Keys Assessment Skills Test.

Data collection skills, ability to follow direction, flexibility, positivity, teamwork, and professionalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in teaching students how to become independent and responsible at school
  • Assists with specialized needs that may include behavior, learning, self-help skills and/or communication
  • Ensures that students learn at their own level and have their specialized needs met
  • Collects or gathers data
  • Documents student progress
  • Runs small learning groups
  • Prepares or sets up activities and materials for the next rotation, period or day; helps students with self-care tasks
  • Monitors students during class, transitions, lunch or breaks
  • Provides instructional support individually or in small groups
  • Provides one-on-one instruction
  • Meet(s) with teachers
  • Provides accommodations for students to have access to classroom instruction
  • Helps implement behavior management plans
  • Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities

Student or Students as assigned and needed by teacher.

Language Skills

Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions; short correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to students, staff, parents and administrators.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear, occasionally run, stoop, kneel, lift or move up to 50lbs, sometimes push items of 75lbs or more. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

The work environment is primarily indoors; noise levels are moderate to loud, which is acceptable for this environment.
