Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within six (6) months of hire.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within six (6) months of hire.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required within one (1) year of hire.

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred but required for call positions.

Must-Have:

  • Minimum of 2 years hospital nursing experience.
  • Previous Operating Room experience preferred.

Description:

Position

Purpose:

To coordinate and implement an individualized plan of care for each surgical patient using the nursing process.

Practicing within the scope, standards, policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties:

Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care plans based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.

Functions as a Day Surgery RN, Intra-Operative RN (Circulating and/or Scrub RN), and PACU RN.Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.

Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

Identifies barriers to effective communication based on psychosocial, literacy, financial, and cultural considerations.

Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel.

May precept student nurses and new hires.

Employs critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Adheres to AORN standards, ASPAN standards, and policies of the Surgical Services department.

Consistently ready and prepared for assigned patients.

Ensures Perioperative Verification is complete before the patient is taken into the surgical suite.

Appropriately responds to emergency situations demonstrating emergency interventions following Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support algorithms, policies, and procedures.

Gives thorough report of patient’s preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative conditions as indicated to receiving nurse.

Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

Performs other duties as assigned.
