Assistant Microbiologist

Scope of Role Avondale Foods is a leading food processing company of Fresh and Chilled products supplying leading retail businesses such as Marks & Spencer,Morrisons and Waitrose in the UK. The purpose of this role is to provide a microbiological service to production, product development and technical. To lead by example and ensure that youare adhering to company policies and procedures in relation to Product Quality, Food Safety and Integrity.

What you will do:

Collect samples of raw material, work in progress and finished product for microbiological analysis. Book in samples and perform microbiological testing, including water testing. Record results accurately, either manually or directly onto LIMS. Interpret results against specifications and report findings to the Micro Lab management/Senior Technical Manager. Carry out environmental swabbing to monitor the cleanliness of plant and equipment. Carry out microbiological testing of finished product to determine shelf life.

Collect finished product samples for external laboratory analysis. Prepare media and sterilise equipment and utensils. Complete documentation and record sheets for customers and for the accreditation body (CLAS standards. Carry out other reasonable duties as required.

Essential Criteria :

Experience of working within a microbiological laboratory

Experience of working within a UKAS/CLAS OR equivalent accredited laboratory Third level Food Science or Microbiology qualification OR equivalent Experience working with a Computerised Laboratory Information Management System Benefits:
