The OpportunityWe are recruiting for an experienced Plumbing & Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join the Estates team within a prestigious private healthcare hospital in Central London.
This is a critical role within a live clinical environment, where water systems and mechanical plant directly support patient safety, infection control and operational continuity. You will take ownership of plumbing systems while also supporting key mechanical plant including FCUs and AHUs.
This role is ideal for a qualified plumber with strong mechanical aptitude and experience within hospitals or complex commercial buildings.
The RoleAs part of a professional Estates team, you will deliver high-quality planned and reactive maintenance across domestic water systems and associated mechanical plant.
You will ensure full compliance with water hygiene legislation, maintain heating and cooling systems, and respond promptly to operational requirements across the main hospital and outpatient sites.
Key Responsibilities- Plumbing & Water Systems
- Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on domestic hot and cold-water systems
- Maintain and repair:
- Calorifiers
- Booster sets
- Expansion vessels
- Pumps and associated pipework
- TMVs (servicing and replacement)
- Sanitaryware and drainage systems
- Conduct water hygiene tasks including:
- Flushing regimes
- Temperature monitoring
- Record keeping in line with Water Risk Assessments
- Ensure full compliance with Legionella control standards
- Diagnose and repair plumbing faults efficiently in a live healthcare setting
- Mechanical Plant & HVAC Support
- Service and maintain:
- Fan Coil Units (FCUs)
- Air Handling Units (AHUs)
- Heating systems and associated pipework
- Pumps and mechanical plant
- Carry out filter changes, belt replacements and general mechanical servicing
- Support plant room inspections and daily checks
- Assist with minor installation and upgrade works
- Respond to reactive maintenance requests via CAFM system
- Work alongside BMS controls where required
- Service and maintain:
- General Duties
- Manage contractors on site, reviewing RAMS and issuing permits
- Maintain clean, safe and compliant plant areas
- Participate in 1 in 5 on-call rota
- Support Estates projects and improvement works
- 1 in 5 on-call rota
- £190 standby payment per on-call week
- Saturday shift (8am-5pm during on-call week) paid at time and a half
- Approx. £2,350 additional earnings per annum
- Overtime available
- Strong work-life balance culture
- City & Guilds / NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing or Building Services Engineering
- Minimum 2 years' experience within a hospital or complex commercial environment
- Strong knowledge of water hygiene and Legionella compliance
- Experience maintaining commercial hot and cold-water systems
- Experience servicing FCUs and AHUs
- Understanding of pumps, calorifiers, booster sets and heating systems
- Familiar with CAFM systems
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety and Fire Safety regulations
- Compliance-focused with strong attention to detail
- Proactive and able to prioritise workload
- Calm and professional within a patient-facing environment
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Able to work independently and collaboratively
- £39,000-£41,000 basic salary (DOE)
- Approx. £2,350 additional annual on-call earnings
- 25 days annual leave increasing to 28 after 5 years' service
