Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Parts Person / Parts Technician

Keep the fleet moving. Keep the projects alive.

At Mackay Contracting, our crews build highways, mine infrastructure, utilities, bridges, and major earthworks projects across Western Canada. None of it happens without reliable equipment — and reliable equipment depends on having the right parts in the right place at the right time.

As a Parts Person, you’ll play a critical role behind the scenes that directly impacts the field. When an excavator is down, a haul truck needs components overnight, or a mechanic is chasing a breakdown, you help keep the operation moving.

This isn’t a role where you sit behind a counter waiting for the phone to ring. You’ll work closely with our maintenance, logistics, and field teams to solve problems, source hard‑to‑find parts, manage inventory, and support crews working in demanding environments. If you enjoy fast‑paced environments, heavy equipment, and being the person people count on when things get critical — you’ll fit right in.

What

You’ll Get to Do
  • Help keep a large fleet of heavy civil and mining equipment operating safely and efficiently across multiple projects
  • Solve real‑world operational problems by sourcing parts quickly, accurately, and cost‑effectively
  • Support field crews and mechanics who rely on you to minimize downtime and keep production moving
  • Manage inventory for everything from haul trucks and excavators to pickups, service trucks, and support equipment
  • Work directly with suppliers, vendors, technicians, operators, and project teams to coordinate urgent and planned parts needs
  • Maintain an organized, efficient parts room where crews can get what they need without wasting time
  • Deliver parts to project sites when required and help crews stay productive in the field
  • Handle warranty claims, exchanges, shipping, receiving, and inventory tracking with attention to detail
  • Support a team that believes preparation beats panic and that organized systems make everybody’s job easier
What Working Here Looks Like

You’ll be based out of our Cranbrook Headquarters, but no two days are exactly the same. Some days you’ll be sourcing emergency components for equipment in the field. Other days you’ll be organizing inventory, coordinating shipments, supporting mechanics in the shop, or tracking down hard‑to‑find parts before downtime impacts production.

You’ll work around heavy equipment, service trucks, tooling, mechanics, operators, and project teams who take pride in what they do. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being around the action and likes solving problems that matter.

At Mackay, safety is not treated like paperwork or a slogan. We believe the best operations are the ones where crews trust each other, communicate clearly, and look out for one another every day. You’ll play an important role in supporting that environment by helping ensure crews have the right tools, materials, and equipment to work safely and efficiently.

Who You Are
  • You enjoy solving problems and figuring things out under pressure
  • You take pride in being dependable when crews need support
  • You’re naturally organized and notice when things are out of place
  • You communicate well with both field crews and suppliers
  • You understand that downtime costs money — and that urgency matters
  • You like working around equipment, shops, tools, and operations environments
  • You’re resourceful and know how to adapt when priorities shift quickly
What You Bring
  • Experience in heavy duty or automotive parts
  • Experience working around construction, mining, trucking, or heavy equipment operations is considered an asset
  • Mechanical or maintenance knowledge is considered an asset
  • Forklift or skid steer experience is considered an asset
  • Comfortable using computers, inventory systems, and supplier platforms
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials when required

Journeyman Parts Technician certification is considered an asset, but practical experience and attitude matter just as much.
