Student Services Specialist – CTE Programs
The Student Services Specialist supports the academic success of Career Technical Education (CTE) students enrolled in targeted academic programs. The role provides proactive and intentional advisement, connects students to program services, experiential learning experiences, and career resources. Responsibilities include developing academic, career, and transfer plans, using an early warning process, and conducting bi‑weekly visits to CTE classes to encourage engagement and ensure progress.
Responsibilities- Coordinate CTE/Perkins project programming, workshops, and industry speaker panels.
- Research, develop, and implement strategies to meet Perkins grant objectives related to experiential learning, student retention, engagement, transfer, and career planning.
- Provide specialized advisement on experiential learning experiences such as internships, externships, and job acquisition.
- Assist students with registration, academic advising, and basic financial aid assistance or handoff to financial aid generalists.
- Support students with the Union portal, Self‑Service, college e‑mail, tuition/fee payment instructions, and scholarship information.
- Develop individual action plans to guide CTE students toward on‑time graduation.
- Teach the CTE/Perkins section of the UCC 101:
College Success course. - Implement student retention strategies and programs.
- Maintain data on students served and services provided, project files for reporting, and generate required reports.
- Collaborate with staff, faculty, and administrators to assess project activities and implement needed adjustments.
Master’s Degree required in Higher Education or a Master’s degree and experience to demonstrate core competencies.
Experience- Two (2) years’ experience in college counseling and academic advising or equivalent preferred.
- Experience with Title V Grant, EOF, or related cohort‑based programs working directly with students.
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, the public, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to learn quickly, grasp policies and procedures related to all aspects of student services.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Initiative to solve problems independently.
- Ability to collaborate with others.
- Typical interior work environment.
- Occasional lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds.
- Minimal physical risk.
- Some travel required.
Salary: $53,000.
Benefits include Medical, Dental and Vision coverage, 20 vacation days, 10 paid holidays, a ten‑week summer work schedule allowing the college to close on Fridays, gym privileges, tuition remission for college courses, and tuition reimbursement for an approved degree program at an accredited institution.
Terms of EmploymentFull‑time grant‑funded position. Flexible schedule to meet department needs; evening, weekend, or extended hours may be required. Ability to travel on short notice to on‑ and off‑campus sites is expected. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies. Funded through the Perkins Higher Education Grant at UCNJ.
