Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is a leading power engineering consultant firm that provides engineering, system planning and studies, technical consultation, project management, surveying, environmental planning, commissioning/testing, and construction services to electric utilities, energy developers and industrials throughout the U.S. Our experience includes system voltages from 4.16 kV through 765 kV.

Substation Senior Engineer (Cranford, NJ)

Responsibilities include:

conceptual, preliminary and final detailed design of new, upgraded and expanded substations; procurement, construction and commissioning/startup support through energization; development and delivery of physical, electrical design studies, calculations, drawings, exhibits and specifications; autonomous QA/QC in primary substation design; coaching and mentoring of less experienced engineers; coordination of specialized tasks with ECI’s subject matter expert discipline groups such as Distribution Studies, Transmission Studies, Grounding Studies, Protection (relay coordination and settings), Civil Engineering, Communication (SCADA Integration), Transmission & Distribution Engineering, Environmental Planning, Surveying, Lands/Right-of-Way, and Project Management/Controls.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of project and design engineering experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and commit to quality and accuracy.
  • Willingness to meet fast‑paced project schedules.
  • Advanced knowledge of power engineering principals, applicable codes, standards and design tools.
  • Basic project management execution skills and ability to oversee and direct design personnel.
  • PE license preferred.
  • Experience in utility or merchant power industry a plus.

Occasional travel/driving is required; the successful applicant will be subject to ECI’s auto insurance carrier requirements. The successful applicant may be subject to client‑mandated drug and background checking.

Compensation

Salary range: $135,000 to $211,000 annually, commensurate with experience and education.
