Position: Activities Assistant  - Fulltime Day shift Mon-Fri
Birchwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center -

Responsibilities:

  • Requires one evening per week and every other Sunday.
  • Helps resident maintain their highest level of functioning by presenting appropriate activity programs according to resident's physical capacity, cognitive ability and interest.
  • Motivate resident to take an interest in their life and community by investigating alternative methods of activities, resident hobbies, and community interest.
  • Delivers mail, flowers and other items to residents in timely manner and reads mail to residents upon request.
  • Prepares for activity program by assuring all supplies are available and room is ready.
  • Assist in transporting residents to activity program.
  • Assist resident in craft projects and activity.
  • Implements activity procedures Assist directed by the Activity Director by creating decorations, setting up necessary equipment, escorting residents to and from activity area.
  • Assist in scheduling movies, planning parties and providing games/activities for residents.
  • Supervise activities as necessary.
  • Safety and care of resident during transport.
  • Safety and care of resident during activities.
  • Proper chart documentation or resident participation and evaluation.
  • Activities assessments
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited high school or GED preferred.
  • Previous long-term care experience is desirable.
  • Responsible for assisting with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreational, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual programs for a long-term care nursing center in accordance with patient assessment plans and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assists with documentation of patient assessments and activity attendance records.
  • Embrace the standards, values, and beliefs of the organization.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Be capable of maintaining effective working relationships with patients, family members, department heads, and fellow associates.
