The interpreter will interpret English to ASL and interpret ASL to English for deaf students.
Characteristics, Duties, and ResponsibilitiesInterpret ASL to English and English to ASL for deaf students during class, for meetings with professors and other faculty/staff members, at college events and as needed for situations at UCNJ Union College of Union County, NJ.
Education RequirementsAssociate’s degree required. National certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf required.
ExperienceExperience working with a diverse population preferred.
Competencies and Skills Required- Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and student body
- Ability to deal with broad range of student population at different developmental life stages.
- This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
- Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
- Some travel required.
$75.00 per hour

Termsof Employment
Part time (as needed). Hourly rate:
Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
