Our client is a global social impact measurement company that makes it easy to listen to the people who matter most. We collect high-quality, benchmarked social performance data through 15-minute phone surveys, conducted by our network of 1,000+ trained research assistants in local languages across 100+ countries. Our unique methodology turns customer and beneficiary voices into actionable insights, helping organizations measure, benchmark, and improve their impact.

Their proprietary platform is the world’s largest social performance database, enabling investors, funders, and enterprises to access comparable impact intelligence on 800+ companies, identify top social performers, and explore sector and regional trends.

They are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support our US finance operations. This role will be hands-on, working closely with our CFO and Head of Finance, and will be responsible for delivering accurate, timely accounting and reporting, plus federal, state and local compliance for the US entity.

Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting

Full-cycle accounting for the US entity, from posting journal entries to trial balance.

Prepare monthly close to a high standard by Working Day 5, ensuring accurate and timely cut-off of all transactions.

Maintain complete reconciliation files for every balance sheet account each month, including schedules for prepayments, accruals, and fixed assets.

Process payroll-related accounting, including allocation journals based on departmental inputs.

Ensure payroll data is correctly recorded and reconciled in the general ledger.

Support project cost tracking and allocations

Work with project data to ensure proper matching of revenues and costs.

State and Local Compliance

US Sales & Use Tax:

Monitor nexus and update Avalara records.

Prepare and file sales tax returns in coordination with our external tax advisory firm (Source Advisors).

Manage collection and storage of exemption certificates.

Use Tax:
Identify applicable transactions (e.g. software purchases), manage MPU certificates, and liaise with vendors.

US State & Local:
Maintain working knowledge of state and local compliance, including franchise and other state-specific taxes.

W-8/W-9 Compliance:
Ensure all vendors have correct tax forms on file.

1099 Process:
Prepare and issue 1099s annually.

Banking & Treasury

Manage bank registrations and set up new accounts as needed.

Perform weekly and monthly bank reconciliations using BAI2 files from Citibank.

Registering payments for approval by CFO 2-3x per week.

Monitor FX needs, registering purchase orders in Citibank FX for approval by CFO

Prepare and update the weekly 13-week cash outflow forecast.

Systems & Tools

Work in Xledger ERP for all accounting processes (must be a quick learner).

Administer Brex portal for US virtual cards, including new card setup, transaction review, and coding.

Work in Avalara for Sales Tax nexus monitoring and compliance.

Post equity-related accounting entries from our Cap Table software (Optiontrax).

Qualifications & Experience

A degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or foreign equivalent preferred).

Significant accounting experience, must have been in a US-focused role.

Strong knowledge of US GAAP and familiarity with US Sales & Use Tax compliance.

Experience with Avalara, spend portals (e.g. Brex, Pleo, Spendesk etc), and equity accounting is an advantage.

Proven ability to handle monthly close and prepare complete reconciliation files.

Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets; able to manipulate and reconcile large data sets.

Comfortable working across time zones with a distributed team. CFO and Head of Finance is in the UK.
