Job SummaryWe are seeking a Dentist specializing in pediatric mobile dentistry. This part‑time position involves providing clinical dental services and preventive care in a pediatric mobile setting. The Staff Dentist supervises the dental assistant and dental hygienist on the pediatric mobile unit.
Work Schedule DemandsThe position is part‑time, with hours to be determined by the Dental Directors. The Dentist must be flexible to accommodate the client population, may be required to work at any CCAP location, and is sometimes needed to work evenings and special events.
Requirements – Qualifications- Graduation from an accredited dental school
- Completion of an accredited general practice residency program is preferred
- Ability to be clinically fluent in Spanish preferred
- Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required
- Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges; hospital privileges preferred
- FTCA coverage or private professional malpractice insurance obtainable
- Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of RI (not applicable to commissioned NHSC/PHS officers)
- Current CPR (BLS) certifications; ACLS preferred
- Rhode Island DPS and DEA registrations
- Medicare and Medicaid provider numbers
- Provide/maintain all required immunizations and/or vaccinations
- Complete all required background checks
- Examine individuals requesting care, diagnose dental/oral conditions, prescribe and carry out or direct appropriate treatment, or refer individuals for specialty consultation in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
- Record patient–dentist transactions as they occur, ensuring the patient record accurately reflects the nature of contact, patient condition, and care provided.
- Complete referrals, data collection instruments, and other required documentation as directed by the corporation.
- Educate individuals in oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health disease prevention.
- Serve on the dental staff and other center committees as assigned.
- Prepare specific reports as requested by the community health center’s Dental Director.
- Assist in providing continuing education, on‑job training, and orientation of staff as requested.
- Design, develop, and implement Dental Department policies, protocols, and procedures in line with current professional standards.
- Provide technical assistance and health education to the community as requested.
- Participate in short‑ and long‑term program planning for the Dental Department and the agency.
- Provide consultation to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors regarding dental and oral health issues in the absence of the Dental Director.
- Travel as necessary to fulfill the corporation’s needs and attend meetings as required.
- Co‑ordinate and integrate the corporation’s dental programs and services with other corporate programs for patient welfare.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and corporate rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures governing practice and patient confidentiality.
- Participate in recruitment/retention activities of the corporation as necessary.
- Perform other related tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals.
- Maintain patient confidentiality with respect to personal, medical, dental, and billing information.
- Participate in all QI activities including peer review.
- Comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings.
- Knowledge of modern dentistry principles and practice as related to public health organizations, community health programs, and current social and economic public health issues.
