Position Description

The State Pre‑K Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Pre‑K Teacher in providing a high‑quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood education program for four‑year‑old students in accordance with state Pre‑K guidelines and district policies. The assistant works collaboratively to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment that promotes children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing daily instructional activities aligned with state Pre‑K standards.
  • Support individualized and small‑group instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Supervise children to ensure a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Help prepare instructional materials, learning centers, and classroom displays.
  • Assist with assessing student progress through observation and documentation.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Support classroom routines, transitions, and behavior management in accordance with program expectations.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and parent conferences as needed.
  • Perform related duties such as maintaining records, cleaning up, and organizing supplies.
Qualifications
  • Required:
    • High school diploma or GED
    • Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or an associate degree in Early Childhood Education (as required by state regulations)
    • Experience working with young children in an educational setting
  • Preferred:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
    • Knowledge of state Pre‑K curriculum standards and developmentally appropriate practices
    • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
