Job Summary

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the teacher in all aspects of the classroom, including but not limited to assessment, planning, and the preparation and implementation of daily activities. In the event the teacher is not present, the teacher assistant is required to take on the responsibilities of the teacher’s role. Teacher Assistant may be required to work within any age level classrooms including, but not limited to, Infant/Toddler or Preschool aged children.

Work

Schedule Demands
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Monday – Friday.
  • May need to work at any of the childcare locations within Cranston.
  • Evenings as needed.
Requirements
  • CDA or RI State Teacher Assistant Certificate
  • AA in Early Childhood; preferred.
  • Early Childhood experience; preferred.
  • Teacher Assistants enrolled in ECE or related higher education programming which is reviewed each semester.
  • Bilingual; preferred.
  • Complete all required background checks
  • Must have physical exam upon hire
  • Provide/maintain all required immunizations and/or vaccinations
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate upon hire or within 90 days
Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a classroom of up to 20 preschool children or 8 infant and toddlers.
  • Maintain strict health and safety protocols and policies.
  • Be aware of and comply with HS performance, RIELDS, and RIDE standards.
  • Assist teacher in the implementation of a research-based curriculum with fidelity.
  • Assist the teacher in individualizing for children using assessment data and IEP/IFSP.
  • Utilize assessment tool through observation and documentation in collaboration with the teacher.
  • Support effective social/emotional learning using Incredible Years and Conscious Discipline.
  • Complete 2 home visits and 2 parent/teacher conferences per year.
  • Attend all agency, full staff and education meetings.
  • Attend in-service training and professional development opportunities to ensure completion of required hours.
  • Complete appropriate RIELDS PD. This may occur during or after hours.
  • Maintain an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP).
  • Participate in transition to kindergarten opportunities.
  • Maintain good, positive, and effective working relationships with staff, families, and special educators.
  • Responsible to report any suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
  • Substitutes for the lead teacher as needed.
  • Ensure the safety of all children in your care and actively supervise all children.
  • Float or substitute teachers will have the same responsibilities as teachers but will be expected to go to different buildings if needed.
  • If a long-term float/substitute is in a room, the float/substitute is responsible for all planning and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
