Full‑time, 260‑day per calendar year position subject to salary, holidays and paid vacation as established by School Committee policy.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required (CPA or Master’s Degree preferred)
- Minimum 3 years accounting experience within a large organization and/or school district
- Strong working knowledge of UCOA and government accounting principles
- Experience with school district financial systems and software (MUNIS)
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational and communication skills
- Familiarity with Rhode Island Department of Education reporting requirements
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
- Assists the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of the annual budget and other related activities
- Assists in monitoring and revising the budget accounts on a periodic basis
- Monitors and maintains cash control and disbursement reconciliations, student activity account reconciliations and analysis
- Works with staff to review the status of budget accounts to guard against overspending
- Controls and maintains fiscal systems by preparing monthly and year‑end financial statements
- Assures compliance with and assists in the preparation of all regulatory agency reports (Federal, State and Department of Education; UCOA, GAAP, GASB, Annual Financial Statement Audit, Single Audit)
- Assists in monitoring the financial affairs of the school lunch program and the Grant Fiscal Program
- Assists in all purchasing activities, including the preparation of bid specifications and correspondence with vendors concerning order and invoice problems
- Prepares and maintains financial and ordering records related to the annual ordering system of supplies, textbooks, equipment, etc.
- Assists in the overall operation of the Business Office staff, including review and documentation of secretarial functions
- Assists in supervising the accounts receivable functions in tuition, receipts, etc.
- Attends School Committee meetings as required and performs other functions as directed by the Chief Financial Officer
- Assists in supervision and direction of employees in the Department of Business & Operations
- Accesses and analyzes information to assist and act in a confidential capacity to the CFO regarding formulation and effectuation of management policies and personnel directives related to labor relations in the School Department
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer
Reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the School Committee’s Policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
