Principal Policy Associate
The principal policy associate is responsible for all aspects of social and human service programs review at the State of Rhode Island Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner (OHIC) including, but not limited to: serving as the lead for all work related to OHIC's comprehensive reviews of all social and human service programs having a contract with or licensed by the state, collaborating with other OHIC staff members whenever necessary to carry out complex duties and responsibilities related to social and human service program review successfully, and completing related work as required.
Under the general supervision of the health insurance commissioner, the position has wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgement in the performance of assignments and work is subject to review for conformance to expectations and requirements.
Illustrative examples of work performed include securing and managing a qualified and competent firm or firms to undertake analyses, reports, and studies, engaging with providers, recipients, and other interested parties to allow for comments to be offered and questions to be posed and resolved, and consulting with other state agencies, including, but not limited to, the State of Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
Other duties in support of OHIC's health insurance policy reform and regulatory enforcement work may be assigned at the discretion of the health insurance commissioner.
Required qualifications for appointment include a bachelor's degree, with a master's or other professional degree preferred but not required. Experience required is such as may have been gained through significant employment in a professional position related to health care, social policy, social work, or a closely related field. Any combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent to the above education and experience shall satisfy the above education and experience requirements.
