Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island (MOWRI) is a mission-driven organization dedicated to meeting the nutritional, safety, and social needs of Rhode Islanders so that they can maintain healthy and independent lifestyles. We believe food is medicine and that access to nutritious, appropriate meals and education plays a vital role in health, disease management, and overall well-being.

Summary

The role of the Research Grant Coordinator is to lead the INNU Innovations in Nutrition Programs and Services grant. The grant is evaluating the impact and sustainability of enhanced home-delivered meal program services on older adults, health and well-being.

This is a full-time salaried position for 35 hours per week;
Monday through Friday with the core hours of 8:30 am - 4:00 pm.

This is a grant funded position that ends on April 30, 2028, with the possibility for extension based on available funds.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation of project activities identified in the work plan
  • Assume the day-to-day responsibility of achieving objectives and outcomes
  • Supervise the Research Grant Assistant/Community Health Worker
  • Identify and recruit participants from the target population into the research project
  • Input information into a customer relationship management (CRM)
  • Implement community health worker intervention to address gaps in socialization and health and well-being for home-delivered meal participants (e.g. assess participants for medical, social and safety needs; support the navigation of systems, offer education and support)
  • Assist with the shelf-stable food bag intervention to address nutrition gaps for home-delivered meal participants
  • Ensure equitable approaches to reach the target population
  • Collect data from home-delivered meal participants to determine measurable outcomes
  • Participate in regular technical assistance calls and attend regular meetings with the study team
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Engage in community health work trainings and professional development opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • Certified Community Health Worker or ability to obtain certification
  • 3-5 years of experience in a professional setting
  • Associate degree in a related field preferred or equivalent advanced education/training or experience required
  • Experience working with older adults, preferred
  • Bilingual/Spanish speaking, preferred

Work Environment

Work is performed in a building. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the environment is sometimes fast paced. Protocol for safety and security is a priority. Occasional work after normal business hours. Must be able to drive to other locations such as external meetings, within the state.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands; balance, stoop, kneel or crouch; and talk or hear. The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
