JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:

Interpreter/Translator (Spanish)

FUNCTION:
The job of the Interpreter/Translator is to convert oral speech and written text from one language to another in a variety of contexts.

REPORTS TO:

Principal

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fluency in the Spanish language required; preferred, fluency in other languages preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least three years of related experience required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in English and the designated target language, including speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills.
  • Previous experience providing interpretation and translation services, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of educational terminology and the ability to accurately interpret and translate information for students, families, and school personnel.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards, including FERPA requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, support staff, students, and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Ability to provide instructional support to Multilingual Learners (MLLs) in small-group settings under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, with the ability to travel between district schools as needed to provide interpretation and translation services.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Fluency in, and thorough understanding of the Spanish language.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills in the Spanish language. Excellent listening skills and auditory recall as needed to remember spoken words and accurately reproduce them in the desired language.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite or related software.
  • Ability to appropriately understand and respond to culturally sensitive situations, perspectives, and phrases.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in intense situations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • This position requires regular travel between school buildings within the district. The employee must be able to move throughout school facilities and transport materials necessary to perform interpretation, translation, and instructional support duties.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten month work year. Hourly rate and benefits in accordance with Non-Certified Employee Policy.
