Position: Worker's Compensation Paralegal

Job Summary

The Workers’ Compensation Paralegal (“WC Paralegal”) is a key member of the Workers’ Compensation team, providing administrative and legal support to the Firm’s Workers’ Compensation attorneys. The position involves organizing and analyzing case documents, drafting pleadings and other court filings, scheduling events, managing discovery and trial exhibits, and maintaining accurate client files. The role is remote, full‑time (approximately 40 hours per week), and reports directly to the Managing WC Attorney.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain client files, continually updating and filing documents, including employment records, claim files, medical bills, and extensive medical records.
  • Apply knowledge of Rhode Island Workers’ Compensation law and court process; preferred knowledge of Massachusetts Workers’ Compensation law and procedure.
  • Request supporting documents, ensuring client files are current.
  • Prepare discovery requests and responses, pleadings, and file e‑filings with courts and serve them to appropriate parties.
  • Schedule events, including hearings, depositions, medical evaluations, attorney conferences, client meetings, and court appointments.
  • Prepare exhibits, exhibit and witness lists for trials or hearings, pre‑trial conference memos, mediation materials, and settlement documents.
  • Provide substantive administrative support to attorneys to enhance office efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintain an accurate calendar for assigned attorneys, docketing deadlines in Smart Advocate and Outlook.
  • Consistently produce high‑level work that meets or exceeds Firm standards.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Prioritize and meet all deadlines with high reliability and efficiency.
  • Adapt to a very fast‑paced environment and change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Work well in a team‑oriented environment.
  • Keen to learn and improve continually.
  • Deliver timely and efficient work, setting clear tasks and goals to achieve high completion levels.
  • Use foresight to plan ahead, anticipating the needs of supervising attorneys and the team.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required:

    3–5 years of Workers’ Compensation experience in Rhode Island.
  • Preferred:
    Knowledge of Massachusetts Workers’ Compensation law, court procedures, electronic filing system, and DMS system.
