Position Purpose

Perform field operations of sanitary collection systems and new collection system installations to ensure effective facility performance in compliance with all regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and emergency inspections of the sanitary sewer collection system as determined by the CMOM program or management.
  • Execute maintenance activities in accordance with written programs or directed by the Chief Collections Operator and/or management staff.
  • Operate sewer equipment safely and efficiently, including rodding machines, pumps, CCTV equipment, high‑pressure flushing equipment, chain saws, weed cutters, and other standard sewer collection equipment.
  • Maintain grounds, including snow removal, landscaping, easement clearing, painting, and asphalt repair within WWTF and collection systems as required.
  • Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment according to vendor specifications.
  • Conduct routine lubrication of equipment and motors, replace oil reserves, and obtain necessary parts through established procedures.
  • Participate in cross‑training for collection system operations, maintenance, and safety duties.
  • Work safely and professionally by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, electromechanical, and hydraulic equipment using tools and trade gauges.
  • Repair departmental equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, computer, software, and electrical components; examples include CCTV repair, generator repair, and equipment for flushing or vac‑toring trucks.
Work Environment
  • Work in outdoor and indoor environments with varying noise, temperatures, and climatic conditions within a team setting.
  • Operate within traffic conditions using traffic control measures as needed.
  • Comfortable with confined space entry, traffic control, and sewer construction work.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Data entry in a computerized management system.
  • Operate a variety of machinery, vehicles, material handling equipment, hand‑power tools, and specialized equipment for roads, grounds, and facilities.
  • Strong reading, math, writing, verbal, and computer skills; ability to interpret and record data.
  • Ability to read and interpret as‑built drawings as directed.
Required Certification, Licenses, or Training
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Commercial driver’s license (CDL).
  • Basic understanding of collection system operations, including Collections System Operator Certificate, NASCO’s Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP), Manhole Assessment Certification Program (MACP), OSHA ten‑hour training, and traffic flagger certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Work in various positions—walking (70%), standing (10%), sitting (10%), and bending (10%). Lift and carry 60 pounds in standing and bending positions; carry while walking distances of 10 feet.
