We are looking for a 2nd Shift Production Supervisor to support our team at our location in Cranston, RI.

Position Overview

The 2nd Shift Supervisor is responsible for directing and coordinating all production activities during the second shift at EMI Industries’ Cranston, RI facility. This role ensures that shift operations run safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards and production schedules. The 2nd Shift Supervisor leads a team of direct labor employees across manufacturing departments, serving as the primary point of accountability for shift performance, employee conduct, and continuous improvement on the floor.

Job Functions
  • Supervise and direct the daily activities of second shift production employees across assigned departments, ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Monitor shift production output against daily targets; identify and resolve bottlenecks, staffing gaps, or equipment issues to maintain throughput and meet customer delivery commitments.
  • Enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations; conduct regular safety walkthroughs and immediately address unsafe conditions or behaviors on the floor.
  • Provide clear shift handoff communication to day shift leadership, including production status, open issues, employee concerns, and any incidents or non-conformances that occurred during the shift.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop shift employees; provide real-time performance feedback and administer corrective actions in accordance with EMI’s HR policies and progressive discipline guidelines.
  • Monitor and document employee attendance, timekeeping, and schedule adherence; coordinate with HR as needed on attendance-related matters.
  • Ensure quality standards are met at each stage of production; work with Quality Assurance to identify root causes of defects or non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Production Planning and Materials teams to understand work order priorities, material availability, and schedule changes; adjust floor assignments accordingly to meet commitments.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying waste, inefficiencies, or process gaps on the floor and partnering with management and the CI team to implement solutions.
  • Participate in new employee onboarding and training on the second shift; ensure all employees are properly trained on standard work, safety procedures, and equipment operation before working independently.
  • Report and document workplace incidents, near-misses, and injuries in accordance with EMI’s safety reporting procedures; support investigation and corrective action as directed.
  • Model and reinforce a positive, respectful, and inclusive team culture; lead by example in professionalism, attendance, and commitment to EMI’s values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a manufacturing or industrial production environment, with the ability to direct, motivate, and hold a team accountable.
  • Strong understanding of production scheduling, workflow management, and shop floor operations in a custom manufacturing environment.
  • Solid knowledge of workplace safety regulations (OSHA) and a demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, production schedules, shop drawings, and quality specifications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to give clear direction, provide constructive feedback, and de-escalate conflict on the floor.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to enter data and navigate an ERP or production management system.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound, timely decisions under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Demonstrated reliability and accountability; must be available to work the full second shift schedule and occasional overtime as production demands require.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and build effective working relationships with day shift supervisors, managers, HR, and support departments.
