SUMMARY

The Wound Care Nurse is part of the advanced wound care team that provides wound care services to chronic and acute patients. Under the supervision of the Assistant Clinical Manager, Program Manager and the Medical Director, this individual completes specific tasks including measurement, assessments, photographic imaging, prep, dressing application, and HBO chamber operation. The role requires critical thinking, strong organization, and multitasking.

• Demonstrate clinical competency in wound care tasks.
• Apply wound dressings and off‑loading methods.
• Manage nutrition, blood sugar, and pain control.
• Maintain infection control and a clean environment.
• Ensure continuity of care with case managers and physicians.
• Implement provider orders for wound care.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement meetings.
• Seek and complete advanced training to enhance clinical skills.
• Maintain knowledge of reimbursement and documentation requirements.
• Follow Joint Commission, CMS, and UHMS standards.
• Assist in patient and family wound care education.
• Perform advanced compression wraps, negative pressure wound therapy, and debridement assistance.
• Stock supplies, manage orders, and decontaminate instruments.
• Provide timely, accurate documentation in exam rooms.

• Licensed Registered Nurse in Rhode Island or RN under the Nurse Licensure Compact.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred; Associate’s required).
• Certified Wound Nurse preferred (AWMA, CWS, CWOCN).
• CPR certification.
• Knowledge of caring for patients across aging, developmental, and cultural contexts.
• Experience:
  
  minimum two years of clinical nursing in medical‑surgical, ambulatory, or surgical settings; high‑volume outpatient clinic experience preferred.
• Physical ability to perform two‑person lifts and wheelchair to exam table, stand, sit, bend, and handle instruments.

The position involves exposure to communicable diseases under infection control protocols. Must perform two‑person lifts and operate a wheelchair to exam table. Flexible scheduling and full range of motion are required. Vision (close, distance, color) and hearing must be adequate. Must stand, sit, walk, bend, lean, squat for extended periods, maintain dexterity with carts, and perform CPR. Work in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions.
