Position Overview:
Southmont High School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate full-time 1:1 Special Education Instructional Aide beginning January 2026. This classified position involves working closely with a student with special needs, supporting individualized instruction and daily classroom activities under the supervision of a licensed special education teacher. The aide plays a critical role in ensuring the student's educational, social, emotional, and behavioral goals are met.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide direct, one-on-one academic and behavioral support to a designated student with special needs.
* Assist the student in accessing curriculum content and classroom activities as outlined in the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
* Collaborate with the special education teacher, general education staff, therapists, and support personnel.
* Implement the accommodations, modifications, and behavior support plans under the direction of certified staff.
* Support the student in transitioning between classes and other school activities.
* Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
* Maintain accurate documentation and communicate observations to the supervising teacher and special education team.
* Attend staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions as required.
* All other Duties as assigned
Qualifications:
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Previous experience working with students with disabilities or in an educational setting preferred.
* Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
* Must meet any additional requirements set forth by the school district or state education department.
Work Schedule:
* Full-time during the academic school year
* Follows the Southmont Schools academic calendar
