The role of the Safety Coordinator includes, but is not limited to, working closely with the NSIN Teammates, Contractors, and Leadership to drive continuous improvement in safety culture, performance, and safety systems. The Safety Coordinator will interpret and apply regulatory and consensus standards (OSHA, NFPA, NRC, etc.), develop and update policies and procedures, conduct and document incident investigations, safety inspections/audits, develop action plans and follow up, and conduct safety training and participate in emergency response teams.

This position requires working scheduled and unscheduled overtime, some overnight travel, and the ability to be on call 24/7 to respond to safety needs.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline or equivalent work experience

• High level of understanding Occupational Safety & Health
• Steel Mill experience
• Ability to become First Responder, High Angle, and Confined Space rescue certified
• Experience with Industrial Hygiene, Behavior-Based Safety and Worker's Compensation
• Safety training experience and willingness to become certified to teach OSHA 10-hour
• OSHA Voluntary Protection Program experience
