Job Title: Construction Services Technician

Reports To: Construction Services Supervisor

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Job Summary

Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on substation equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation. Assemble, troubleshoot, repair, replace and clean all components in an electrical substation while maintaining compliance with national, state, and local electrical codes along with all Premier Power policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the execution of mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment used in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.
  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to install electrical apparatus according to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Execute power cable installation – duct banks, trend ways, conduit, cable pulling, excavations, splicing, terminations, grounding, and trenching.
  • Perform circuit breaker installation – conductor fabrication, control wiring, gas filling, and grounding.
  • Install protective relay panels – point‑to‑point wire designations, wire labeling, wire terminations, and cable tray assembly.
  • Conduct substation installations – aluminum buss welding, conductor assembly, ground grid installation, and steel erection.
  • Assemble transformers – bushing, radiator, conservator, oil, and arrestor installation. Handle transformer oil processing and vacuum filling.
  • Operate bucket trucks, line trucks, digger trucks, excavators, trenchers, cranes, hydraulic crimpers, conduit benders, cable prep tools, cable pullers, and welders.
  • Participate in preventative maintenance outages at clients’ facilities.
  • Attend weekly safety meetings and trainings.
  • Take calls and give technical advice outside of normal workday.
  • Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiar with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.
  • Use industry‑related hand tools and power tools.
  • Operate power distribution components, specialized testing tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and courtesy when interacting with team members, customers, and vendors.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems as they arise.
  • Intermediate level computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Work independently while utilizing excellent judgement.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Superior PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
  • Multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Consistent punctuality for daily work assignments, meetings, training, etc.
  • Organize time and expense reporting, weekly status reports, and documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean and organized condition and up to date with service and calibrations.
Work Environment
  • Willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office.
  • Corporate business hours Monday‑Friday 7:30am‑4:30pm, but work outside normal hours may be required.
  • Work close to but safely in proximity to live electrical substations.
  • Work overtime, nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Travel on overnight, multi‑day, out‑of‑town projects.
  • Work outside in the elements for long periods.
  • Push, pull, lift, stoop, climb, shovel; work at elevated positions.
  • Hand‑sized work and field work.
  • Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies promptly.
Education and Work Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Military experience is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in electrical substation construction.
  • Completion of Substation or Lineman Apprenticeship program is a plus but not required.
Other Requirements
  • Pass pre‑employment criminal background check, education verification, and motor vehicle report.
  • Pass pre‑employment drug and alcohol test, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Obtain company‑paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
