Automotive Technician

Zabor Automotive | Crest Hill, Illinois | Full-Time

We pay 100% of your health insurance premium.

Monday–Friday, never a weekend.

About Zabor Automotive:

Pull into any of our shops — Rockdale, Crest Hill, or Naperville (opening soon) — and you'll notice the same thing: people who actually like working together. We're a family-owned, ASE-certified team that handles everything from daily drivers to European imports. We share tools, share laughs, share what we know, and nobody gets left fighting a stubborn diagnosis on their own.

We keep things light, we keep each other honest, and we hold a high bar on every job that rolls out the door. If you do great work and want to be part of a crew instead of just another number, you'll fit right in.

Our owner, Stephen, is an ASE Master Technician with 24 years in the trade. He still knows what's under the hood, he sets the standard here, and when a car genuinely stumps you, you're not calling a hotline — you're calling someone who has already fixed it.

Crest Hill is our largest store — an established shop with a steady customer base and a crew that has been here a while. We're opening our third location this fall, and the people who grow with us are the ones already on the bench.

What We Pay:
  • Flat rate.
  • An established book of business. Crest Hill is our busiest store with a customer base built over six years. The cars are already coming through the door.
  • We're not a shop where techs compete for the good tickets. We are a team after one goal. The person next to you isn't your competition — they're the reason you're both getting out on time.
Health Insurance — We Pay The Premium

This is the part most shops won't put in writing, so we will:

100% of your health insurance premium.

Not a stipend. Not half. Not a “plans available” line you have to call HR to decode.

Go read the other technician ads in this market. One of them tells you flat out that half the premium comes out of your check. Most of them don't tell you anything. Depending on your coverage, that difference is worth thousands of dollars a year — real money that never shows up in a quoted pay range. We'd rather you compare.

The

Rest of the Goodies:
  • 401(k) with company contribution.
  • Paid training, and we cover your ASE certification costs — you keep the credentials.
  • Toolbox moving assistance if you're coming to us from another shop.
  • 9 paid holidays — plus your birthday off, paid.
  • Paid time off that grows with tenure: 7 days to start, 13 days at years 3–4, 20 days at 5+.
  • Air-conditioned shop. Every bay.
  • Factory-level scan tools, alignment rack, and full digital inspection setup on tablets.
  • Uniforms provided.
  • Annual shoe allowance.
  • Monday through Friday. Closed weekends. Every one of them. The shops down the road are advertising Saturdays, second shift, and “Sundays off.” We're closed both days, every week.
What You'll Do:
  • Diagnose and repair across all systems: engine, transmission, drivetrain, brakes, steering and suspension, A/C, electrical, hybrid, and advanced diagnostics.
  • Work a real mix — daily drivers, trucks, fleet vehicles, and European imports. You won't be doing oil changes all day.
  • Complete digital vehicle inspections with photos on every car, so the customer sees what you see and the work you found actually gets sold.
  • Document findings clearly — the write-up is part of the repair, not an afterthought.
  • Communicate diagnostic time honestly and early, so we charge for the work you're actually doing.
  • Road test before and after every repair to confirm the fix and catch anything new.
  • Work independently and get it right the first time — and know the team will jump in when you're stuck.
  • Keep a clean, safe, organized bay and follow all OSHA and EPA protocols.
What We're Looking For:
  • 3+ years of…
