Job Summary
Dockworker responsible for efficient loading and unloading of freight at Old Dominion Freight Line, ensuring safety and compliance with DOT guidelines.
Primary Responsibilities- Load and unload freight on trailers using forklift, pallet jack, or manually.
- Apply loading techniques such as tight-loading or cross-loading.
- Transport freight continuously throughout the service center on non‑forgiving surfaces.
- Use Dock Yard Management System to monitor shipment locations.
- Read and interpret shipping labels and complete shipping documents including orders, manifests, bills of lading, and exception forms.
- Hand load, rewrap, or stack freight as required and secure freight with straps, rope, pallets, airbags, and cardboard.
- Maintain communication with service center personnel; work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑oriented environment.
- High‑school diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transport procedures.
- Understanding of freight transportation procedures and loading techniques.
- Experience completing freight movement forms such as shipping orders, manifests, bills of lading, overage/damage reports.
- Proficiency with a dock yard management system and handheld tablet.
- Availability to work all hours required to meet customer pickup and delivery schedules.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Stand for up to 8 hours per shift, 5-7 days per week on non‑forgiving surfaces.
- Sit on a forklift up to 8 hours per shift.
- Walk up to 8 hours a day on non‑slippery or wet surfaces.
- Perform frequent squatting, climbing, pushing, pulling, and lifting tasks up to 100 lbs.
- Reach for freight at waist level and above shoulder height.
- Operate forklift controls, pallet jacks, and handheld tablets.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions and noise levels.
Employees will work in enclosed vehicles or trailers, handle exposure to weather, noise, and lighting variations, and may encounter all weather conditions.
Compensation and BenefitsSalary range: $28.00 – $33.40 per hour.
