EXAMPLES OF WORK
• Coordinates daily activities of Project Inspectors in the Engineering Division of Public Works; provides input to Engineer III for performance evaluation of Project Inspectors.
• Inspects construction sites for compliance with county codes and contract specifications; prepares documents for approval.
• Keeps records of inspections and correspondence for engineering projects; performs on-site inspections of new construction for compliance with approved plans and specifications.
• Meets with and responds to inquiries from contractors, developers, utility companies and the general public to ensure permit/plan compliance and to resolve problems.
• Gathers information to be used in roadway surface evaluation studies.
• Prepares reports necessary for implementing and executing roadway improvement projects; prepares reports for project file review and approval.
• Performs density tests with nuclear gauge.
• Performs duties of the Radiation Safety Officer for the Public Works nuclear density gauge.
• Drafts Agenda items necessary to request Board approval of new rights-of-way, roadways, and stormwater systems into the County warranty period and permanent maintenance period.
• Sets, reads, and resets traffic counting machines at pre-determined locations on a strict time schedule, classifies traffic at pre-determined, semi-permanent locations according to type, direction of travel and time of day and collects other information.
• Review single-family site plans to ensure compliance with the approved stormwater management plan for the development.
• Conducts inspections for certificates of occupancy.
• Tracks bonds related to on-going projects.
• Performs other duties assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in surveying, inspections, and/or Civil Engineering; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be able to accurately determine measurements. Must be able to accurately perform calculations required for use in construction activities, including but not limited to determining volume, area and tonnage.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access required. Associate’s degree with emphasis in surveying, inspections, and/or Civil Engineering preferred.
Licenses and/or
Certifications:
Requires a valid driver license. Requires a Florida DOT Inspector II Certificate and Nuclear Gauge Certificate or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire. Requires a Radiation Safety Officer Certification or must obtain within 6 months of hire. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) badge.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements:
Requires the ability to operate office equipment, to include computers, copy/fax machines and related peripherals. Must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to traverse irregular, uneven, and/or erratically moving surfaces frequently.
Must be able to bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. Requires the ability to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s), and to bend body downward and forward by bending legs and spine. Must be able to reach, extending hand(s) in any direction, and to demonstrate the use of precise dexterity to accomplish everyday tasks.
Requires the ability to work for sustained periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions. This position requires frequent walking and standing. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work.
