West Florida Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is a non-profit organization based in Crestview, Florida. We are dedicated to improving community health through education, outreach, and support.
Position OverviewThe Tobacco Program Support Specialist plays a vital role in advancing the mission of the Tobacco Free Florida AHEC Cessation Program. This position supports program operations through administrative coordination, community outreach, tobacco cessation counseling, data tracking, and reporting to ensure program goals and deliverables are met.
Key Responsibilities- Attend FSU AHEC Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) training as soon as training is made available by the employer after hire.
- Participate in bi-weekly team check-in meetings
- Plan and facilitate tobacco cessation counseling groups
- Complete and manage participant referrals and calls
- Pre-register participants using the Tobacco Free Florida AHEC Cessation Tracker (TFFACT)
- Accurately and timely enter training data and county coursework into TFFACT
- Promote tobacco cessation through partnerships with community organizations serving special populations, including homeless or near-homeless individuals, racial and ethnic minorities, and medically underserved populations
- Plan and deliver tobacco-related trainings for health professionals using DHHS Clinical Practice Guidelines and CDC Best Practices
- Distribute Tobacco Free Florida-approved educational materials and program information
- Provide support to other West Florida AHEC programs as assigned
- Participate in local, regional, statewide, and national meetings and forums that support the AHEC mission
- Complete administrative duties such as timesheets and activity reports
- Use presentation equipment (laptops, LCD projectors) and lift/carry materials as needed
- Travel to meetings, groups, and presentations in surrounding counties, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Tobacco Program Manager
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred
- At least one year of experience in public health, education, or community outreach
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills required, with the ability to confidently present to groups, facilitate trainings, and engage diverse audiences.
- Appropriate written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly, confidently, and with enthusiasm
- Creative problem-solving and innovative thinking abilities
- Strong demonstrated computer skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database systems
- Ability to independently use and troubleshoot virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and effective with time management
- Self-motivated team player
- Tobacco-free for at least six months prior to employment and must remain tobacco-free during employment
- Ability to travel weekly within a four-county service area
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable
- Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods and stand as needed
- Operate standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and copiers
- Maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment with interruptions
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds
- Adequate vision, hearing, and speech to communicate effectively in person and by phone
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
