Surgical Technologist - ASC

Crestview, FL

Pay: $24 per hour

Qualifications
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BLS certification.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with doctors, clinical staff, co‑workers, and the public.
  • Patience and understanding during stressful conditions related to patient health and emergent situations.
  • Working knowledge of all equipment and procedures.
  • Understanding of the healthcare field, medical specialty, and medical terminology.
  • Proof of influenza vaccination annually.
  • Completion of two‑step PPD (for new staff) or annual PPD (for staff in SE) per required regulations.
  • Completion of all regulatory competencies prior to beginning work in the ASC.
  • Strong desire to provide excellent customer service; comply with rules and regulations of accountable organizations; maintain high ethical and professional standards; and foster continuous professional improvement.
  • Prior assistance with the operation of the C‑Arm requires completion of C‑Arm competencies.
Duties
  • Assists in bringing patients to pre‑op, recovery, and transportation for discharge.
  • Assists patients with medical forms, as necessary.
  • Exercises confidentiality in all areas, abiding by HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Accurately completes applicable paperwork; ensures patient medical records are complete.
  • Prepares all forms and requisitions as instructed by the provider.
  • Returns patient calls in a timely manner.
  • Creates and maintains a positive atmosphere of customer service, teamwork, mutual respect, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit; and confirming patient .
  • Sets up the sterile field on the Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, medications, and equipment needed for procedures.
  • Performs initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator.
  • Ensures team members, patient, and procedure suite maintain the sterile field.
  • Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time‑out procedure.
  • Assists physicians with surgical scrubs and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for usage during the procedure; anticipates surgeon’s needs by passing instruments and supplies during the procedure.
  • Measures, passes, and holds medications, hemostatic agents, instruments, and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure.
  • Performs surgical support tasks as directed by the surgeon.
  • Coordinates camera or changes out robotic arms/instruments during endoscopic surgery as directed by the surgeon.
  • Adheres to Infection Control, Safety, and OSHA standards as specified by state and company standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, state, company, and any other applicable policies and procedures.
  • Prepares sterile dressings and/or immobilization devices.
  • Stabilizes and cleans instruments used in examinations and/or procedures; maintains clean and hygienic environment.
  • Operates, sterilizes, and maintains necessary equipment, including but not limited to the autoclave, RFA machine, etc.
  • Monitors the comfort of the patient and provides verbal and tactile reassurance.
  • Assists with positioning the patient using appropriate equipment and anatomical principles to avoid patient injuries.
  • Secures dressings after incision closure.
  • Assists nursing staff with obtaining and recording vital signs, pregnancy tests, and glucometer checks.
  • Monitors personal and other applicable staff task buckets in the EMR.
