Are you a compassionate and skilled nurse looking to make a difference in the challenging environment of Corrections? Do you have experience working around individuals with substance abuse and prepared to help them live in recovery? Morse Correctional Healthcare at Okaloosa County Jail FL is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to enhance our Medication Assisted Program to our inmate population.
Key Responsibilities:- Core Clinical Duties
Administer and monitor MAT medications (e.g., buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone) in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Conduct nursing assessments, including withdrawal monitoring using tools like COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale).
Perform medication reconciliation and ensure accurate documentation in EMR and MAR.
Monitor patients for side effects, adverse reactions, or complications related to MAT.
Support safe detoxification protocols and collaborate with providers on symptom management.
Provide emergency care when necessary (overdose response, Narcan administration, acute medical needs).
Educate patients about MAT, recovery expectations, and harm reduction strategies.
Provide counseling on medication adherence, relapse prevention, and overall health.
Build therapeutic rapport with incarcerated individuals while maintaining professional boundaries.
Assist with care planning, continuity of treatment, and re-entry coordination (discharge planning with community MAT providers).
Work alongside physicians, nurse practitioners, behavioral health staff, and custody officers to deliver integrated care.
Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences.
Communicate effectively with custody staff to ensure security protocols are maintained during medication administration.
Maintain compliance with DEA, SAMHSA, and state regulations governing MAT in correctional settings.
Document nursing care, medication administration, patient response, and education provided.
Follow all HIPAA, NCCHC, and FCAC standards for correctional health care.
Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance reviews.
Provide general nursing care (chronic disease management, sick call, wound care, etc.) in addition to MAT duties.
Train correctional staff on recognizing withdrawal symptoms, overdose signs, and appropriate emergency responses.
Support facility initiatives on suicide prevention, substance use education, and health promotion.
- Current RN license in the state of Florida, or valid multi-state
- Prior experience in a County Jail or similar setting is preferred.
- BLS certification and strong clinical assessment skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle stressful situations with professionalism.
