EXAMPLES OF WORKOperates trucks and equipment (i.e., loaders, pile drivers, air compressors).Utilizes hand tools, to include chainsaws, sledge hammers, shovels, concrete and woodworking tools.
Constructs concrete forms and pours concrete for sidewalks, curbing and spillways.
Inspects trucks, tools and equipment; ensures trucks, tools and equipment are properly maintained.
Constructs guardrails on bridges and beside roadways.
Performs maintenance and repair on, tools, and equipment.
Assists with traffic control at work sites, to include flagging and erecting barricades and signs.
Performs physical labor in the maintenance, restoration or construction of roadways, drainage systems or disposal sites.
Cuts trees, limbs and shrubbery on right-of-ways or adjacent road and traffic areas.
Clears ditches, culverts, drains, gutters and beaver dams.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience. High school diploma or GED, or experience in the operation of light trucks, related light equipment, construction and/or maintenance of bridges and roadways, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, construction plans and as-built drawings.
Licenses and/or Certifications. Requires a valid driver license.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of hand held and electrical equipment and tools, including grounds maintenance equipment. Requires the ability to operate trucks and light equipment. Must be able to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 100 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Tasks include considerable bending, stooping, climbing, etc., and working in confined spaces. Must be able to perform manual labor and remain on feet for extended periods of time. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work.
Language Ability:
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, the public, and supervisors.
Intelligence:
Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
Numerical Aptitude:
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; to determine weight; may require the ability to calculate decimals and percentages.
Interpersonal Temperament:
Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers.
