Overview

Crete is a 328 MW natural gas-fired simple cycle generating facility consisting of four independently dispatchable units serving the PJM power market. The Operations and Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing hands-on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance while supporting safe and reliable plant operations. This role is ideal for a technician with strong maintenance fundamentals—particularly in electrical and/or instrumentation systems—who is willing to learn and support plant operations.

While operating duties are a significant part of the role, operational tasks are trainable; maintenance experience is critical.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform hands-on maintenance of plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, including troubleshooting, calibration, and repair.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance such as pump and valve rebuilds, motor maintenance, and general equipment upkeep.
  • Support safe, efficient, and reliable operation of gas turbine generating units.
  • Troubleshoot plant equipment issues and respond to forced outages.
  • Assist with plant operations, startups, shutdowns, and monitoring of unit performance (training provided as needed).
  • Develop, follow, and improve preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and operational records.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance plant reliability and efficiency.
  • Train and support other technicians as needed.
  • Participate in scheduled and unscheduled night/weekend assignments and call-outs.
  • Support safety, environmental, and compliance programs (NERC, environmental, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a power plant or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following:
    • Electrical systems (motors, breakers, switch gear, MCCs)
    • Instrumentation and controls (sensors, transmitters, calibration, control loops)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude (pumps, valves, motors, rotating equipment).
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures using schematics and technical documentation.
  • Willingness and ability to learn plant operations and control systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with gas turbine power plants.
  • Experience with GE 7EA combustion turbines and/or GE Mark V control systems.
  • Technical degree, apprenticeship, or military technical training.
  • Prior O&M technician or maintenance technician role in power generation or heavy industry.
Physical Requirements
  • Exposure to varied outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces.
  • Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear.
  • Working near high-voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery, with proper training and safety protocols.
  • Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment.
  • Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs, operating large valves, and performing tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling, turning, lifting, or carrying.
  • Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
  • Participation in a post-offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing.
  • Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Summary

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
