Became a Chemist (Level
2) responsible for performing chemical analysis on food and pharmaceutical samples. The incumbent prepares and processes samples, monitors daily activities, and ensures correct analysis results.
- Provide guidance to departmental personnel on analysis procedures and proper sample preparation.
- Analyze and interpret data, correct discrepancies before releasing results, ensuring compliance with method requirements.
- Perform analyses with instrumentation (GC, LC, ICPMS, Protein, Fiber, etc.).
- Utilize HPLC, GC, ICP, and ICPMS to determine concentrations of desired components.
- Prepare materials and standards for analysis.
- Maintain laboratory instruments and perform minor repairs.
- Investigate customer complaints and nonconformances, determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Identify departures from quality system or test procedures and document them.
- Develop new methods with minimal supervision.
- Maintain training records and equipment logs.
- Ensure housekeeping schedule compliance.
- Support laboratory management in implementing and improving the management system.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.
Basic knowledge of food science is helpful. Broad knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary.
Education:
Associate degree required, Bachelor preferred.
Required skills:
2-5 years experience. General chemistry knowledge to perform analyses, obtain correct results and interpret data. Basic knowledge of instrumentation and theory (HPLC, GC, AA) is helpful.
Laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes and chemicals. Safety equipment: gloves, lab coat, eyeglasses. Use of autoclave daily. Lifting up to 50 pounds and extended standing required.
Compensation Range$22-$24 USD per hour
