Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities

We are looking for a Microbiologist I in 3600 Eagle Nest Dr, North Building, Crete, IL 60417 USA. Your mission will be to:

Purpose (Objective):
The incumbent is responsible for the testing of samples using various microbiological analyses. The incumbent provides analytical support for the lab by ensuring that laboratory procedures are performed within specified quality guidelines. This position serves as a technical resource and provides ongoing technical support related to method and process implementations, spending the majority of time in diagnostics.

Main activities
:

  • Follow appropriate methods and SOPs on all tasks; maintain quality control records.
  • Read, calculate and record data in the Laboratory Information Management System.
  • Perform rapid test methods.
  • Perform confirmation tests on suspect samples to identify the strain of bacteria.
  • Read, enter and evaluate process control samples.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System required to complete job responsibilities.
  • Support root‑cause analysis investigations and suggest appropriate corrective actions.
  • Weigh samples and pour correct agar to begin analysis procedures; write identification onto plates for tracking.
  • Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process; pour agar into plates or tubes to begin the growth process.
  • Prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing and blending.
  • Read, calculate and record analysis data to produce a report for the client; correct any discrepancies that occur on the worksheet.
  • Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes.
  • Support department inventory management system.
  • Perform confirmation tests on suspect plates or tubes to identify the strain of bacteria.
  • Participate in cleaning schedule and maintain retained samples as required.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment critical to sample analysis.
  • Update equipment records on forms or in software systems as needed.
  • Keep up‑to‑date on assigned training.
  • Adhere to all safety policies.
  • Support laboratory management in implementing, maintaining, and improving the management system.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.

Any time, the incumbent must behave and operate in an ethical and Code of Conduct compliant manner.

Profile

Schedule
:
Must be able to work evenings and weekends, specifically Saturday & Sunday.

Communication
:
Main contacts include internal interlocutors and occasional personnel outside the immediate working unit.

Knowledge
:
Basic knowledge of microbiology, basic chemistry for media preparation, basic food science for analyzing microbiological content of samples.

Education/Qualifications
:
Associates degree required;
Bachelor's preferred or equivalent work experience. 1–2 years of experience in a relevant laboratory setting.

Required Skills
:
Analytical skills, familiarity with the Laboratory Information Management System, physical dexterity, knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, interpersonal skills for teamwork.

Work Environment
:
Laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials; use of safety equipment such as gloves, laboratory coat, and eyeglasses. Daily use of autoclave and lifting of materials up to 50 lbs may be required; extended standing periods.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation Range: $20.00 – $22.00 hourly USD.
