Crete Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Substitute Teacher position at Crete Intermediate School, serving grades 3–5.

This position requires daily attendance at Crete Intermediate School on all days when students are in session. Benefits include four paid leave days.

Please note that this position does not guarantee continued employment. However, upon successful completion of the assignment, applicants may be considered for continued employment for the following school year.

This position will remain open until filled.

Purpose: The role of the Substitute Teacher is to ensure students continue to receive quality instruction in the absence of their regular classroom teacher.

Essential Requirements
  • Valid State Substitute Certificate or capability to obtain certification
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal background check
Teaching State Substitute Permit

Certified substitute teachers are individuals who hold a bachelor degree or higher in education and have a Nebraska teaching certificate.

The State Substitute Teaching Permit is valid for five (5) years and authorizes teaching in any subject at any level with an unlimited number of days teaching. ( State Sub Permit .aspx)

Requirements
  • Completion of Baccalaureate Degree
  • Completion of a Teacher Education Program at a state approved college or university
  • Completion of the Human Relations Training Requirement (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).)

Essential Functions:

Required Job Tasks

  • Enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom you are responsible.
  • Communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to students.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  • Instruct through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations in one or more subjects, such as English, mathematics, or social studies.
  • Conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Assign lessons and correct homework.
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Perform administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
  • Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
  • Serve as a role model to all students.
  • Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
  • Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
  • Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
  • Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).
