Position Summary
Join Doane University’s Academic Success Center, where you will connect, collaborate, and elevate the student experience. As an Academic Support Specialist (Reading/Writing Emphasis), you will support student success through academic counseling and skill coaching for all Doane students across campuses. You will teach up to three reading/writing courses on the Crete campus in the fall and up to two in the spring, assist with the Tiger Mentoring Program (TPM) for all international and non‑TRIO students, collaborate with the Academic Support Coordinator and Executive Director of Academic Support Services on administrative duties for TPM and Peer Tutoring, and coordinate with Advising and Community & Government Relations to meet the needs of international students.
You will also help disseminate information on resources and events to the Doane community. Duties may also be assigned by the Executive Director of Academic Support Services. This position serves students across all areas, with offices in Crete and at the Lincoln Fred Brown Center.
- Provide academic counseling and skills coaching to Doane students.
- Teach reading/writing courses on the Crete campus (no more than three classes in the fall, no more than two in the spring).
- Assist with the Tiger Mentoring Program (TPM) for international and non‑TRIO students.
- Collaborate with the Academic Support Coordinator and Executive Director of Academic Support Services on administrative duties for TPM and Peer Tutoring programs.
- Coordinate with Advising, Community & Government Relations, and the ASC team to meet the needs of international students and communicate resources to the Doane community.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Academic Support Services.
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience plus at least one (1) year of experience in a postsecondary or advising environment and experience in higher education academic support.
- Education or English bachelor’s degree; master’s in English, Education, Sociology, Multicultural Studies, Administration, or Higher Education. Teaching reading/writing at the high school or college level will be considered.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Organizational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple duties.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with data to inform decisions about student success and strategies to improve retention.

Based across both Crete and Lincoln Campus in the Fred Brown Building on a weekly rotation. The work is primarily sedentary with indoor exposure.
