Certified Substitute Teacher

Crete Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for Substitute Teacher positions. The role of a Substitute Teacher is to ensure that students receive quality instruction in the absence of their regular teacher.

Essential Requirements:

  • Satisfactory completion of criminal background check
  • Nebraska Substitute Certificate required

Required Job Tasks:

  • Enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom you are responsible.
  • Communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, to students.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Instruct through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations in one or more subjects, such as English, mathematics, or social studies.
  • Conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Assign lessons and correct homework.
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Perform administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
  • Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
  • Serve as a role model to all students.
  • Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District's reputation or image in the community.
  • Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
  • Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
  • Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).
  • Other Responsibilities:

    Perform the work as required for the position's job tasks in the absence of the staff member.

    Perform other tasks or duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Principal.

    Continuous Employment:

    The relationship between employer and employee is based on mutual respect and consent and therefore, will continue as long as both parties find the relationship to be satisfactory. Accordingly, you are free to terminate your employment with proper notice whenever you feel it would be in your best interest to do so. By the same token, Crete Public Schools (CPS) reserves the same right to terminate employment whenever, at the discretion of CPS, if it is felt necessary to do so.

    This is known as employment "at will," and all employment policies are subject to this overriding principle. Refer to Board Policy 4201.

    Reasonable Assurance for Next School Year:

    Employees are provided reasonable assurance of continuous employment for the upcoming school year until the position is terminated either by the employee or CPS.

    At-Will Position:
