Job Location Purpose of Job

Responsible for planning and overseeing the activities of one of the following Relay for Life Committees:

  • Responsible for creating analytical strategy for all Relay efforts. Charged with tracking all funds raised through Relay For Life events. This person ensures that all of the money raised is donated to the American Cancer Society to perform life-saving cancer research.
  • Responsible for creating, designing, and posting campaigns on social media to raise awareness about Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. Assist other committee chairs with planning and executing year-round fundraising and cancer-awareness events.
Entertainment & Events Committee
  • Responsible for planning and overseeing the events and activities occurring during Relay For Life programming. Ensure that all who participate in Doane Relay have a positive experience.
  • Responsible for securing financial sponsor ships from local businesses to support Relay For Life. This person will work with the Relay For Life Advisor to secure thousands of dollars in sponsor ships to support life‑saving cancer research.
Luminaria & Ceremonies Committee
  • Responsible for all ceremonies that occur through Relay programming. In charge of all luminary sales before and during Relay For Life, including registration shirts as well. This person will ensure the success of the Luminaria ceremony, a time for Relay participants to grieve and reflect on the lives of loved ones lost to cancer.
Survivor & Caregiver Engagement Committee
  • Responsible for providing information about Relay For Life to individuals and families in the community affected by a cancer diagnosis. This person honors the cancer survivors and current caregivers who register for Relay For Life.
Campus Team Recruitment Committee
  • Responsible for recruiting Doane individuals to create and join fundraising teams. This person ensures that Doane Relay has strong team support and that teams are engaged in fundraising for the event.
Community Team Recruitment Committee
  • Responsible for recruiting community members to create and join fundraising teams. This person ensures that Doane Relay has strong team support and that teams are engaged in fundraising for the event.

Students can apply for this position and indicate up to three committees that they would be interested in chairing.

This is an unpaid student leadership position. The work completed in this position can count as community service hours in Helper Helper. This position requires a commitment of time and energy to join in the fight against cancer.

Begins Fall Semester 2026‑Spring 2027

General Description and Duties
  • Meet once every three weeks with the other executive committee chairs
  • Oversee the work of four to eight committee members, ensuring that deadlines are met
  • Work closely with a Doane faculty/staff advisor
  • Share committee updates at Full Relay meetings
  • Attend Relay for Life and ensure that committee duties are executed
  • Attend required Spring Student Leadership Training (Sunday, April 26th)

  • Communicate clearly on the phone and via email

Total Weekly Hours Required

One to two per week (10-12 hours on the day of Relay)
