Position: Project Engineer (Civil/DOT)

The Opportunity

At KCI Construction, our Project Engineers play a critical role in bringing projects to life. You’ll partner with Project Managers and Superintendents to support the day‑to‑day execution of heavy civil and DOT projects—helping ensure work is delivered safely, on schedule, and on budget. This is a hands‑on role with real exposure to field operations, project controls, and team collaboration.

What You’ll Do
  • Coordinate and track submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs to keep projects moving forward.
  • Maintain project logs (submittals, RFIs) and ensure timely follow‑up and resolution.
  • Track production for self‑performed work and support the team in meeting productivity goals.
  • Measure and verify in‑place quantities for unit price work.
  • Assist with project reporting, meeting coordination, and documentation.
  • Support schedule updates and participate in weekly progress meetings.
  • Maintain accurate as‑built drawings and assist with project closeout documentation, including O&M manuals.
  • Collaborate with estimating and project teams as needed.
  • Take on additional responsibilities that support successful project delivery.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of construction experience preferred (internships count).
  • Exposure to highway/roadway or heavy civil projects is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with P6 and/or Vista is a plus.
