- Act on behalf of the principal during absences.
- Assist the principal in defining the school’s mission, goals, and expectations for the total school program.
- Develop a working knowledge of and ensure compliance with Board of Education policies, regulations, and operating procedures.
- Assist in monitoring and improving student achievement through analysis of multiple data sources.
- Supervise and evaluate all school-based personnel.
- Support continuous school improvement initiatives to ensure success for all students.
- Assist in developing a School Improvement Plan (SIP) that aligns instruction and resources to meet academic data points.
- Help implement the School Crisis and Emergency Management Plan (SCEMP) for a safe and orderly environment.
- Coordinate and supervise student activities.
- Provide written reports as needed.
- Maintain accuracy of student records, including grade reporting and attendance.
- Engage in professional activities that contribute to leadership development, including AP1 and AP2 programs.
- Assist in determining and implementing school organization, student placement, evaluation, and services to meet individual student needs.
- Assist with business management of the school, developing a working knowledge of local school finances.
- Supervise and oversee school operations unique to the assignment.
- Model cooperation, collaboration, and positive interactions with students, staff, and community, exercising initiative, diplomacy, courtesy, discretion, and good judgment.
- Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of each student’s IEP, ensuring compliance with special education regulations and due process procedures.
- Model a professional work ethic, including appropriate dress, attendance, and language.
- Perform related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Education
Master’s Degree in a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university.
Experience
Three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Effective communication, both oral and written, with all school stakeholders.
- Ability to recruit and maintain a diverse teaching and support staff.
- Ability to build a collaborative team that promotes high expectations for all students.
- Ability to garner support, resources, and community engagement for student achievement, social skill, and character development.
- Knowledge of Anne Arundel County school curriculum.
- Ability to create a school culture that reflects the richness and diversity of the community.
- Record of good attendance.
- Proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., video/web conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite).
Licenses and Certifications
Hold or be eligible for Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) licensure:
Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, and Principal.
Additional work days or hours may be required on evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
