This is a hybrid work opportunity. The Company feels that three shared days in the office and two days with the option of working remotely allows for both collaborative time and quiet space for deep work. Eligible employees for hybrid work are required to work in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. There may be a need for additional office days based on specific business requirement.
Job Description
The Engineering Intern will support the Planning, Facilities Construction, and Distribution Systems teams in a variety of tasks related to water infrastructure. The Intern will gain hands‑on experience in project planning, coordination, and execution across multiple engineering functions.
Projects may include water conservation initiatives, capital budgeting, supply development, and the design of new or upgraded water distribution lines, treatment facilities, pumping stations, and water storage tanks. The Intern will also have the opportunity to be mentored by experienced professionals and learn more about the engineering role and the water utility industry.
Key Responsibilities
* Shadow and learn the day‑to‑day operations of the Engineering teams
* Provide administrative and project support to Project Engineers, the Manager of Project Engineering, Project Coordinators, and others as assigned
* With guidance from others, assist with in‑field investigations and design work for assigned infrastructure and capital projects to ensure compliance with Contract Documents
* Under the supervision of others, coordinate design schedules and related activities to support timely project delivery
* Assist in the development and maintenance of project schedules
* Support the preparation of project documentation, including reports, presentations, and technical drawings
* Collaborate with team members to ensure effective communication and coordination of project activities
* Conduct research and gather data to support project planning and decision‑making
* Participate in project meetings and provide updates on assigned tasks
* Provide support for permit or approval applications required by federal, state, or local agencies
* Assist Facilities Project Coordinators during the construction of new facilities
* Adhere to Company administrative reporting policies and controls
* Work closely with local teams to ensure clear and effective communication
* Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor or manager
Minimum Qualification
Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Engineering or a related field.
* Strong organizational and time management skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Basic understanding of project management principles is a plus.
* Computer-aided design (CAD) software / AutoCAD skillset preferred.
