OverviewThe Buyer is responsible for analyzing business requirements and procurement data to source, quote, and order raw materials in direct alignment with production schedules. This role reviews Material Requirements Planning (MRP) demand, manages raw material delivery schedules, and maintains strong vendor relationships to negotiate competitive pricing and reduce lead times. Operating in a manufacturing environment, the Buyer works closely with materials, engineering, and production teams to prevent material shortages, drive cost-savings, and support lean process improvements.

Key Responsibilities
- Material Procurement:
Analyze manufacturing requirements to purchase raw materials based on precise requirement dates and quantities. - Schedule Optimization:
Continually review and adjust raw material delivery schedules to react to shifting production demands and inventory fluctuations. - Cross-Functional Communication:
Communicate schedule adjustments and material updates to the planning and production departments in a timely manner. - Sourcing & Quoting:
Partner with the purchasing team and engineering department to source and secure accurate quotes for new manufacturing materials. - Vendor Management:
Establish, develop, and maintain strategic relationships with new and existing suppliers. Negotiate pricing, drive lead-time reductions, and ensure strict material quality standards. - Demand Analysis:
Actively monitor and react to material demand generated by MRP systems, manual triggers, and direct planner communications. - Inventory Control:
Collaborate with the materials group and production leads to verify that sufficient part volumes are on hand to satisfy both short- and long-range production schedules. - Lean & Cost Savings Initiatives:
Assist with cost-reduction projects across the business unit. Take direct ownership of materials projects to support lean manufacturing initiatives and develop process improvements.
Must Have Skills / Requirements
- Manufacturing Purchasing: 1–2 years of direct purchasing or procurement experience working specifically within a manufacturing environment.
- Systems & Data Literacy:
Strong foundational knowledge of ERP systems, alongside professional Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis and reporting. - Professional Attributes:
High sense of urgency, structural ownership of tasks, exceptional organizational skills, acute attention to detail, and a proven ability to multi-task. - Communication:
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with internal departments and external suppliers. - Physical Capabilities:
Must be able to safely lift up to 35 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Hands-on operational experience utilizing SAP ERP software.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Experience:
1–2 years of relevant manufacturing purchasing experience is required. - Education:
Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
