About the Job

This is a full-time, 12-month position starting at $23.90 per hour working in the Department of Facilities and Operations. This position reports to the Director of Facilities and Operations. Must be willing to work holidays and overtime when necessary. This position is represented by the Teamsters Local 320 Bargaining Unit.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform general building repairs such as doors (knobs, hinges, latches, locks), window screens, wall dents/holes, overhead doors, and similar items. Set up locks, rekey, and repair lock cores.
  • Repair and replace bathroom accessories, flush assemblies, and faucet components when isolated by a backflow preventer. Auger drains and unclogs toilets.
  • Conduct preventative and general maintenance such as replacing filters, changing belts, and lubricating/greasing components.
  • Clean waste from fixtures up to and including the P-trap.
  • Balance fans and sheaves.
  • Replace bearings on various equipment including water- and air-cooled compressors and vacuum pumps.
  • Install and remove window air-conditioning units.
  • Inspect and adjust controls on domestic heating and/or cooling pumps.
  • Troubleshoot general building complaints (e.g., air is too hot/cold, leaking faucets, doors not closing, loss of electricity). Troubleshooting may also include checking for blockages in steam, water, sewer, and air vacuum lines. May troubleshoot and repair window air conditioners (excluding any work requiring opening the refrigerant system).
  • Adjust components on air handlers, including dampers, fans, and sheaves. Adjust controls on domestic heating and/or cooling pumps.
  • Notify supervisor of building repairs requiring specialized knowledge or skills. Brief facilities management and/or contractors on repair issues as needed and assist when necessary.
  • Assemble and repair furniture, cabinets, and cubicles. Hang pictures, bulletin boards, and simple shelves.
  • Perform minor fabrication and soldering when needed.
  • Replace low‑voltage items such as switch/outlet plates and light bulbs and reset breakers.
  • May perform basic repairs to electrical equipment.
  • Maintain and repair small motors and engines (electric or fossil fuel), including cleaning equipment, snow blowers, backpack blowers, power sprayers, and compressors.
  • Order standard supplies from vendors when necessary.
  • Remove snow and perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Technical education/training in mechanical maintenance totaling one year and one year of applicable work experience, or a combination of education and/or applicable experience to total two years.
  • Position may require the ability to walk or stand for the majority of the day; bend, climb, reach, kneel, carry, lift, push and pull 50 pounds or more.
  • Must be able to follow detailed written work order, plans, and drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating grounds and snow removal equipment to include tractor, skid steer, tool cat, etc.

Pay Rate: $23.90 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
