HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Overview
This is a full-time, 12‑month position starting at $34.13 per hour working in the Department of Facilities and Operations. The position reports to the Director of Facilities and Operations, requires willingness to work holidays and overtime when necessary, and is represented by the Teamsters Local 320 Bargaining Unit.
Position Responsibilities- Perform tasks and duties of Mechanic I classification. Tests, regenerates, inspects, adjusts, changes filters, and repairs/replaces components of water softeners, distilled water, and laboratory water systems downstream of approved backflow prev enters.
- Operate building systems utilizing computerized equipment. Determine appropriate adjustments. Inspect, service, and perform daily operation to hot water heating systems and low‑pressure steam chillers. May break into refrigerant side. Align and replace hot water heating, chilled water, and condenser water pumps.
- Repair and replace components of air handlers and dampers; inspect/clean coils; repair/replace variable blade axial fans; repair generator engines.
- Shock water heaters, flush and winterize heating and cooling coils, perform soldering or welding, test, clean, lubricate, monitor, and inspect fire pumps and associated equipment.
- Notify supervisor of equipment or supplies in need of repair or replenishment, also of facilities in need of repair or upkeep.
- Technical education/training in mechanical maintenance totaling two years and three years of applicable work experience. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Position may require specific licenses, certifications (e.g., HVAC, refrigeration, welder, engineer, etc.), education, or expertise or the ability to receive a special engineer license on or before date of hire.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of this position. Positions may require the ability to walk or stand for majority of day, bend, climb, reach, kneel; carry, lift, push and pull 50 lbs. or more.
- Experience operating grounds and snow removal equipment to include tractor, skid steer, tool cat, etc.
Pay Rate: $34.13 per hour depending on education/qualifications/experience.
Time Appointment: 100% A appointment.
