Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs daily and routine road surface maintenance activities to keep the roadways and roadsides safe and in good repair according to MnDOT standards. An employee in this class assists in the maintenance and operation of snow and ice control to ensure safe and clear roadways, and performs related work as required. A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.

Performs

Roadway Maintenance And Roadside Functions Such As
  • All activities required for roadside maintenance.
  • All roadway surface maintenance activities.
  • Services and makes minor repairs to operating equipment.
  • Provides traffic control.
  • Performs basic construction monitoring duties and basic inspection activities.
  • Other duties as required.
Performs Snow & Ice Functions Such As
  • Maintain roadways for snow and ice control.
  • Prepare and inspects winter equipment.
  • Perform pre-season snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup.
  • Perform winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals.
  • Perform all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes.
  • Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management.
  • Perform traffic control set‑ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MnDOT does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US.

A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with no air brake restriction is required at time of application and must obtain tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire. Must obtain valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with no air brake restriction and tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire. License must by maintained throughout employment.

AND

One year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).

Or

Education:

Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
