Job Description
ELL Teacher
* Meet with students individually or in small groups to improve English proficiency in proximity to regular content classes.
* Collaborate with the content-area teachers and ELL staff to ensure the instruction and assessment is appropriate for the students' current English proficiency level.
* Maintain student records in IILP.
* Collaborate with the classroom teacher(s) to develop, communicate, and execute the Individual Learning Plan (ILP).
* Facilitate and implement the 2-year formal monitoring process for students who have exited the ELL program.
* Ensure timely communication with parents concerning any ELL program-related information.
* Attend professional development and training as provided.
* Share/extend professional development to general education teachers and ELL staff on topics such as language acquisition, acculturation, ELL instructional best practices, differentiation of assessments, etc.
* Meet with ELL staff regularly individually to monitor their work with students, problem-solve, and address individual needs.
* Provide ELL expertise in case conferences for ELL students with disabilities, MTSS meetings, referrals for Special Education evaluation, and other school-based processes pertaining to ELL students.
* Administer the WIDA placement tests and the annual WIDA ACCESS assessment.
* Participate in family engagement events such as Parent Advisory meetings, cultural events, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelors or master's degree in the field of studies being taught
* Valid Indiana Teaching License
-ENL (English as a New Language) or the following prerequisites:
* valid Indiana Professional Educator License with an initial issue date on or before September 1, 2019
* at least one year of P-12 teaching experience in or out of state
* completed undergraduate or graduate level content specific coursework in second language acquisition from an Accredited Institution. Coursework must be part of an educator preparation track leading to ENL licensure.
* Skilled in effective teaching practices.
* Experience or willingness to gain proficiency in teaching in a blended learning environment with skills related to curriculum development, instructional processes, instructional design, assessment and professional development
* Experience or willingness to gain proficiency in using technology tools for learning (online tutorials, collaborations, and courseware)
* Skilled at motivating learners
* Able to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students
* Successfully employs best practice instructional strategies with a student-centered focus
* Able to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, support staff, parents and community
* Effectively manages a differentiated and personalized classroom
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Shall have on file with the Personnel Office a valid copy of his/her teaching license before beginning work and shall be responsible for periodic renewal. Failure to comply with this provision will result in loss of salary.
* Shall implement by instruction and action the district's mission and philosophy of education and the instructional goals.
* Shall be familiar with the state advisory documents, the State Standards in the assigned areas of study and the District Curriculum Standards appropriate to the teaching assignment.
* Shall maintain continuity of instruction and have good attendance to provide such instruction.
* Shall design and deliver engaging, challenging and relevant aligned content.
* Shall provide rigorous learning goals and performance scales.
* Shall implement best practice instructional strategies to promote student achievement in a blended learning environment.
* Shall utilize a variety of student performance assessment strategies, student data and standard based proficiencies to monitor student progress, achievement and differentiation of instructional strategies.
* Shall maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative guidelines and complete reports and electronic information/data entry in a timely manner.
* Shall provide differentiated, personalized or individualized instruction and small group support to ensure all students are advancing at an appropriate level.
* Shall employ strong classroom management skills that create and maintain a positive classroom culture and provide encouraging feedback to students.
* Shall collaborate with course and grade based faculty teams to align curriculum assessment and share best practice instructional strategies.
* Shall make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
